Film Club Extra Credit - "Plan 9 From Outer Space" (Cameron Smith)

Plan 9 From Outer Space
Written by: Cameron Smith

Starring: Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, and Tom Keene
Directed by: Ed Wood

Wednesday, October 19th was the day of film club's third (and best) meet. On this particular meet, Mr. Monahan and Mr. Whitbeck decided to do a double-feature. The first feature was the original version of "The Mummy" (not the Brendan Fraser version), which I missed to handle other matters. Twas no disappointment, however, as I arrived just in time for the second feature entitled "Plan 9 From Outer Space." This film was no ordinary film, but a work of art -- the one liners, the flying saucers, the depictions of Extra Terrestrials, and the Oscar worthy acting all scream cinema gold! Not only that, but despite the fact that this film is from 1959, it still holds up in our modern world and gives us (the human race) a promising and fearful message about what is to come in the days "where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives."

Realistically though, this film is terrible! You might have been able to sense my sarcasm, but this film is horribly acted, poorly shot, outlandish, and laughable. This is me looking at it critically, but all of the flaws are the beauty of this film! It is just one of those films that are so atrocious that they are amazing (i.e. hilarious!). I would highly recommend watching this film and seeing just what I mean; and lucky for anyone interested, you don't have to purchase this film, as the whole thing is on YouTube!
