Winters Bone

Winters Bone staring Jenifer Lawrence tells the story of a struggling daughter who battles through the problems of dealing with her sick mother, finding her father, and trying to keep her house while taking care of her little brother and sister. by having none of her family giving her not a whole lot of help, she manages to fight and deal with her situations on her own. The movie was released in 2010 but has a 1990s southern feeling by having non modern cars, no cell phone, and the way the family lives their life. Ree played as Jenifer Lawrence shows the southern traits by cooking on a outdoor fire pit and catching squirls and other animals they hunt. Them doing this gives off a more southern feeling to the viewer of the movie. As the movie plays we see her uncle John Hawkes aka Teardrop. He is an antagonist in the beginning of the film because he denies to help Ree by look for her father. He then turns into a protagonist after Ree tries to find out who killed her father and goes and runs into a guy named Thump Milton who was the man who ordered people to kill her father. Ree had gotten beat up then Teardrop came to save her and helped her find her fathers body. Winters Bone gave me the felling that it was based on a true event by having such great actors and having the movie have a non fictional feel witch made the events that happened feel realistic. Comparing this movie to Beast of the Southern Wild i can see similarities in the plot. Both Ree and Hushpuppy both had one big problem they had to face. Unlike beast of the southern wild Ree had to handle her problems almost on her own. Hushpuppy had some support to help with the problems, but after loosing her dad just like Ree she learned how to face them alone. Overall Winters Bone is a fell deserved must see according to me and is a film no matter that genre you prefer.
