Chicago

Related imageI have heard so much about the famous Chicago story but I wasn't sure what it actually was.  Was it a movie? A Broadway musical? Or is a simple play? The film Chicago (2002) directed by Rob Marshall answered all of my questions and so much more.  I had so what of an idea of what the film Chicago would be like and turns out I was completely wrong.  Not only was this movie a crime film but it was also a comedy and a musical all in one.  In my eye, the musical part of the movie really tied everything together.

The story of Chicago, begins with Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger), who is trying to create a name for herself in the huge city, but she never expected it to happen the way it did.  Roxie finds herself on death row because she shot and killed her boyfriend who lied about making her a star.  While behind bars she met Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) who was famously incarcerated when she broke up her sister act by killing her sister and her husband.  Both of them have the same goal, constantly stay a headlining topic and also to avoid the death chair.  The one person who can get them exactly what they wanted was Billy Flynn (Richard Gere).  Billy Flynn, a lawyer, who has never lost a single case.  Together Roxie and Billy manipulate the press and was able to create an identity for Roxie.
