Sugar

Sugar
OF COURSE Sugar was my favorite movie so far, I have to rep my fellow Dominicans! No but seriously I think I can speak for everyone in saying that this movie was very enjoyable to watch, it was funny and had everyone actually listening (or at least reading the subtitles). The relationships in this movie were very...modern and nothing like any of the other movies. This movie really got to me because it didn't fabricate anything , it portrayed struggles that everyday people have.
Sugar started off in Dominican Republic and over there, the thought of coming to the states is so OMG. They think that all your problems are going to be fixed and that this place is filled with so much opportunity an MONEY that your bound to make it but Sugar found out the hard way that that isn't how it really is. He had his girl back at home who seemed pretty supportive of everything, his whole family was supportive. Okay so he got drafted for a team in the U.S and everything was going smooth, he really made an impression when he first got there and he had a wicked curve ball. Sugar was living with these white folks in some state that I forgot about. They were like a squeaky clean family , religious and everything. They had a daughter that was a senior I think, she ran a little church group that Sugar started going to. He only went cause he was trying to finesse her. Anyways he started to lose his edge on the field though, wasn't doing as well as when he first started and on top of that they just drafted a new player that started taking his spot so the pressure was really getting to him and like every athlete under a lot of stress he started doing drugs and even though it allowed him to play better he was acting craazzyy. Say no to drugs kids. He started hearing less and less from his family back in D.R and his girl stopped picking up his calls (of course ) He just up and left the team and moved to New York which was uncalled for, he didn't have any family in New York, no money, crazy. This was one of those movies that didn't have a message for an ending, it kinda just...ended. He ended up joining a team full of rejects as well as finding his friend Jorge. Sugar, his character, got me frustrated because he would rather settle for a team of " almost made it " players when he had the chance to actually be one of the players who MADE it. Obviously he was more comfortable with his new team but when your comfortable you settle, you don't push yourself.
