Alien (1979) directed by Riley Scott was a sci-fi horror film that kept your heart racing all throughout the film.  The tagline for this movie, "No one can hear you scream in space", sends goosebumps down your back before you even pressing play.  The film keeps you at the edge of your seat, as crew of astronauts fight a nearly un-winnable fight against an alien that overtake their ship.  With lots of action packed scene, very little dialogue, special effects and visual effects techniques make this film a great breakthrough in technology considering the year of 1979.

The film starts with a seven member crew:  Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), Dallas (Tom Skerrit), Ash (Ian Holm), Lambert (Veronica Cartwright), Harry Dean Stanton (Brett), Kane (John Hurt), and Parker (Yaphet Kotto).  They land on a the moon where they come across a mysterious life form that attacks Kane.  Ash, who is the science engineer, breaks protocol by opening the door to the ship in order to save Kane.   This turns out to be a huge mistake, because the alien that Kane was attacked by is now on the ship and put the entire crew in jeopardy.

To me what makes this film great was the strong female protagonist, Ripley, that turns out to be last survivor of her crew ship of seven members.  Ripley is over looked when it came to her opinions in the beginning of the movie.  The crew of all men think below her, even though she is the only one who saw the danger of this alien from the beginning.  Her role on the ship begins to change as one by one her crew is begin slaughtered by the alien.  Ripley ends up escaping the ship and defeating the alien all by her self.  Overall this film, Alien, was a great sci-fi/horror movie.  The suspense and thrill throughout the movie is what made it, in my opinion, a very good movie.
