40 Acres and a Mule, 1994
The 1994 film Crooklyn is a story about the life of a little girl inside of a large family. The setting that takes place in this movie is in Brooklyn, New York hence the name "Crooklyn." This is where we meet Troy ( Zelda Harris). Throughout the movie we see Troy getting in multiple arguments with her brothers and even people that she hangs out with. She also goes outside where she plays with her friends who often seem a bit racist. She also tries to steal from a store and ends up getting caught. She is also aware of how her body is underdeveloped and she starts getting emotional and aware. She starts to put tissue in her shirt, etc. She also loves her family and enjoys spending time with them even though she fights for the T.V. because her brothers don't want to watch what she wants to watch. Over the days she has nightmares about the two guys who stay outside sniffing glue. She also gets an invitation to her cousins house down south and she doesn't want to go at first but her mother then assures her that she would have fun.
She then starts a new routine that she's not use to and complains that she wants to go back home and wants to send her birthday with her family back home. She starts to play with her cousin and starts to have fun. She starts getting use to being down south.
When she went back home she then learned that her mom had cancer and she was slowly dying. After her mom died they went to her funeral and her brothers and her seemed to get along just fine. She took after the household right after since she was the only girl of the family she felt as if it was her responsibility to help her father around the house and help out her brothers
I did enjoy the movie but I didn't enjoy as much as I thought it would. I didn't get the whole plot of the movie and it started off pretty slow I didn't know what was going on. But it was a really interesting movie to watch. It was nice to see Troy grow up and help her father with the family when her mom passed. It was nice to see her go from a little girl who stole, and yelled at her brothers. To this girl who help them out at the end, and took after in her mother's footsteps.
One of my favorite scenes was when Troy went to the South. She seemed like she had much fun with her cousin Viola. She wasn't enjoying herself but then she started to like it and Viola became like one of her best friends.
