This movie is definitely one of my favorites. It shines a light on one of the major issues plaguing America: policy brutality against African American males. A black man laying on his back was shot by a white officer. He was not the first or the last. It was more than that, though. It showed who Oscar Grant was and gave a visual representation of his last day alive. It touched on the time he spent with his daughter, the favors he did for his mom, and how he left the drug game with intentions of bettering his life with his girlfriend and daughter. It made it so that Oscar Grant was a real person, not just a body laying on an autopsy table with a homicide sticker on the folder.
I remember when this movie first came out. I watched it once before and almost cried because it was such a heavy, emotional movie. The second time wasn't much different. The main actor, Michael B. Jordan, did a great job portraying Oscar Grant. His emotions were spot on, especially the scene at the end where he was shot. He laid in a pool of his own blood while it also dripped from between his lips. He stared up at the cop who shot him and told him that he had a daughter and a girlfriend, while also saying "you shot me!" over and over again. With a broken voice, he said his last words before becoming unconscious and eventually dying.
I recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. It's a movie that opens your eyes to the things going on around you.
