Rocky-Stephen Collins
Rocky is the first in the Rocky film series and is directed by John G. Avildsen and won Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 1976 and stars Sylvester Stallone (who also wrote the screenplay), Talia Shire, Carl Weathers, Burt Yong and Burgess Meredith and was release by United Artists in 1976.
The film explores of being an underdog and the American Dream, since the film is set during America's bicentennial. Rocky is a "down on his luck" boxer and Apollo is the boxing champion of the world.
The film explores the idea of identity. It explores on how Rocky feelings about getting older and why he want to prove to everyone that he can be a boxer.
Rocky defines Stallone's career. It's his best character he has every played and you totally buy him as this character. You will also forget that is Stallone and just see the character Rocky.
As a film, Rocky is one of the best film I have every seen. The drama is super good and you do care for every characters. Rocky and Adrian's relationship is a pretty interesting. Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed is his best performance is his career. The fight is great and is the best part of the film.
The film has a great direction. John G. Avildsen's direction is amazing as the montage are some of the best in film history. The montage is this film is so motivational and is why the Philly's Museum of Art step are called the "Rocky Steps".
Rocky is one of the best film of all time. It works as a drama, sports film, action film as well as just being a fine film. It's one of the most influential film in history and defines Stallone's career as well as the culture of films.
