What is determination? Determination is the key to having a successful life; it's all about hard work - staying true to yourself and having confidence makes you a better person. In the movie Rocky, it portrayed so many life lessons and character traits that can push a person to do better.
Rocky Balboa was a local fighter in Philly, who also worked for a loan shark. Rocky's life was plain and simple for the most part. For awhile he really didn't think there was anything wrong. Rocky was a laid back kind of guy, who had a drinking and smoking problem [? he drinks and smokes - which is not good - but does he have an alcohol problem?]. He worked in a meat shop with his close friend Paulie Pennino [there is definitely evidence Paulie has a drinking problem; Rocky does get meat from Paulie and train at the meat packing plant, but I don't think Rocky ever works at Shamrock Meats]. Throughout the movie Paulie was a good friend and stood by Rocky's side. Paulie's sister Adrianna started to develop a crush on Rocky. Rocky did as well. Adrianna kept Rocky on his toes when it came to really staying true to yourself. She was a like his guardian angel.
Later in the movie, Apollo Creed, a world champion fighter wanted to keep his title as ''champ'' and decided he wanted to fight Rocky. Even though Rocky was a fighter, his fights were local and it wasn't against a heavyweight champ. Creed looked at this as his easy win. Despite how everyone else thought, Rocky doubted himself and thought he wasn't going to win. Apollo Creed's greediness for winning kind of left him hanging.
Mickey, a boxing trainer knew Rocky very well and decided to take him under his care. First, Mickey did make it clear to Rocky that his way of living was a waste of time and that he knew that Rocky could succeed and do much better. Over course Rocky didn't like that but he later did understand and let Mickey train him. It took some time for Rocky to get fit and ready. Because he wasn't in shape and had a drinking/smoking problem, it stopped him from physically being ready. But with Mickey, Adrianna, and Paulie there helping him, it made him mentally and physically stronger.
As time went on and the fight seem to be coming closer, Rocky still had some doubt. After a while, physically he was ready but his mind was telling him something different. The day of the fight he lasted over 10 rounds with Apollo and it was shocking to many. Apollo Creed usually knocks out his opponents but not Rocky. Both of them were worn out and their faces were beat but it never stopped Rocky from running that race. In a split decision it was decided that Creed won. But in reality Rocky won with his determination and dedication.
Overall, this movie gives a life lesson to never give up and always strive for the best. Rocky didn't know how to do that until 3 courageous people were there to help them. Those 3 people stayed along his side and that tells us that sometimes we can't always do things on our own. Don't push away people who mean the best for you. In my opinion I know that Rocky later knew the definition of hard work and love. And in the end, he might not have one the fight but he won the love of Adrianna.
