Miguels shows us this risk he takes on leaving his team and going to New York to find his friend. The first couple of days are a struggle for him because he has no job or money. He goes to a local diner were there he meets a girl who gives him some kind of info of his friend, while speaking to her he brings up how he needs a job and in less that a few hours he was hired.  Now that he had a job he wanted to do something for his mom, as a thank you gift for always being there for hm. He walks into a carpentry store and asked the guy if they had what he needed and if they were curretny hiring. The man that owns the store is PuertoRican and told him now but everyday he would come back asking ans insisting until the man said yes. Miguel never knew what it was like to have a male figure in his life because his father passed away so this man became like his mentor. He gave him advise on life and how he shouldnt give up on his dream of playing baseballse because he was destined to play and he had a gift for the game.

Miguel found his friend Jorge and got him back in the swing of things, like playing again he introduced him to the team and showed him all the major league member and who they play for. Thats when he knew that was home and were he belonged all along.

I really enjoyed watching this movie during class. This movie starts off in Kansas city were a group of Dominican baseball players are training to try and get into the big leagues. It all starts with them sitting in a class with a proffesor teaching them how to speak english since they don't know how. His teaching these young men baseball terms and making them repeat after him. One of our main protagonist is Miguel aka (Azucar)who is known for not throwing so well but on the long run begins to throw really excellent strike outs. Miguel has family back home in the Dominican Republic whom he wants to help out with the money he earns playing baseball since were they live is a not as nice. His mom supports him all the way and is extremly gratefull for her son following his dreams. As they are in traning season he begins to sharpen up and the coaches are taking notice of him and concider to bring him into the big leagues, but before all that happens they put him to the test to see if he'll pass. The coaches have each team member go up and pitch to see how good they've gotten. Nervous Miguel goes up and his friend Jorge is encouraging him to relax and do good. Feeling some pressure he goes up and does his thing, he had impressed the coach and made it to the staright A- line were he would go out to play big leagues. He was so excited he called his girlfriend and mom to tell them the good new. "Mami pase para jugar en las grandes ligas.!"

Man on Wire

This documentary had caught my interest due to the fact it had contained suspense and action. In my opinion most documentaries are usually boring to me but this one had seemed kinda different even though some parts may be in a different language. The topic to the movie is something unusual and something not many people may know about and that makes the director grab the viewers attention. I personally would like to see that guy walk on the wire from one tower to the other.

Phillip, continues his journey on wire walking, with no one to stop him in his path. Phillip and his crew create a plan to go to the world trade center and set up everything for Phillip can make his impossible dream come true. They make it to the 104th floor were it is abandoned but little did they know a guard was going to be walking around to see if he would find any intruders. Quickly his friend and him hide under a tarp stiff as a statue not even breathing sorta. It turned out they had to hide under it all day because people kept walking back and fourth. At one point he guard lend on a post just a few inches away from them and it was so nerve wrecking because any slight movement would get them caught.  So it hits night time and they get to work getting there most important equipment first to start the process. He gets told what he wants to do is impossible and life threatening but that won't stop him there. Nothing seems impossible for Phillip.

This documentary really did not spark my interest. Its all about a guy named Phillip who is telling his own story about how one day he was sitting in the dentist office and he was reading a paper were it was promoting how two of the biggest buildings were going to be made. That lit him up and he had found his dream and what he wants to do with his life, which is to walk on wire. Back at his home he set up wires to do tight rope walking which he intended to tech himself. He had support from his mom and a young girl named Annie who he seemed to like very much.He would also use her to help him balance across the wire. Phillip basically works all his life to prepare himself to walk across the world trade center.

He is just adventurous he explained how nobody could stop him when he showed his liking to this type of dangerous wire walking. Everyone has a different way of venting or form of vent. He feels as if this is his castaway desert island of his dreams. He was going to pursue his dream to walk the wire between the twin towers. His friend believed that Phillip wasn't ready and neither was he because he would feel as if it was assisted suicide, he didn't want to be held liable for the death of his friend Phillip. He had to get in there, he studied the people show their passes to get into the World Trade Center so his friend and him made fake passes with their photo on it. August 6th 11:08 pm they hid under a bean for three hours inside the building to hide out until he was able to get up there. He was with three other people and the other two made it to the other tower to connect the wires. They all felt happiness in that moment knowing that it was all actually about to happen.

Sugar: An Unexpected Ending

After completing the film Sugar, I couldn't help but feel that the ending was unexpected. When we first started watching, I was sure he was going to make it to the big leagues or at least finish out the minor league season. I was sure he was going to finish was he set out to do. I couldn't have been more wrong. Sugar, did not make it to the major leagues, he didn't even finish out his current season. He left with the excuse that he didn't want to wait for them to kick him out. As a baseball player from another country with not as many opportunities as some of his teammates, he always had to worry about the new guy coming in and stealing his limelight, and that's exactly what happened. Instead of waiting for them to dispose of him, he made himself disappear and started over anew, he went to the one place he always planned on: New York. Although, the circumstances were different than he originally thought, that's where he ultimately ended up in search of his friend Jorge, who was cut from the team. A fate Sugar didn't want, a fate he wanted to avoid. He left before they could do the same to him. Sugar ends up creating a life for himself in New York: he gets a job, a place to stay, makes new friends, old friends return, he has a girlfriend who speaks Spanish, and he joins a recreational baseball team. He seems to be doing alright. Sugar doesn't return home, a fact that is troubling to me, but he still calls home. He created a new life for himself, and he's content. I think content is the best word to describe him, he's working at a nine to five minimum wage job and paying rent but he's also found love, friendship, and he gets to play the game he loves without any pressure of being cut or replaced by a younger up and comer.

This film is very similar to Rocky and it's idea of the "American Dream". I may not necessarily like the ending but I can respect it, because it's meaningful. Not everyone makes it. Many try and fail, but the point is you try. Rocky tried, Sugar tried, and even though at first they didn't succeed, it didn't mean that their lives were over. Life goes on, and both characters persevered, they didn't give in and they didn't give up. 

So, the ending was unexpected, but it made an impact because people root for the underdog and sometimes the underdog doesn't win. Sugar was an underdog, he came over from another country, from poverty to make it big in America, but that didn't happen, and the audience was upset. They were upset because they were rooting for him. They wanted him to make it, because they identify with him. They relate to his character.

The social reality in this film is very direct, this happens, everyday. In no way is it the end. Life goes on. People are strong. They are fighters, they are survivors. They will make it through somehow, someway.
